Stocks Bounce

Today's decision by the Fed to allow certain types of debt, including mortgages, to be used as collateral in exchange for additional borrowing from the Fed helped stocks rally. The move is seen as stabilizing the mortgage markets. This may be an opportunity to get out of some of the financials on the bounce. It should be interesting to see how the markets trade the rest of the week.

As a side note, you can view CMBX Indices on the web.

Have been reading the big ben blog, well done! Does anyone have an opinion on gold, the growing uncertainty on the stock market has caused such investments to grow to record levels.

Fears a global recession will hit emerging market countries hardest. Much of Brazil's economy is commodity and export driven.

Funding and the relationship with donors is a key issue for civil society across the world. As such, it has been a consistently discussed issue in the CIVICUS network and at the CIVICUS World Assemblies (WA). At the same time, funders themselves have identified the need to work together and produce more coherent policies to reduce the burden on NGOs to seek and receive funding. A key aim of the WAs is to bring different actors together to discuss the major problems facing civil society, and collaboratively work on solutions.

In 2006, with the first WA in Glasgow, CIVICUS, SCVO and the Big Lottery Fund (BLF) recognized that the timing was right to capitalize on the growing interest among funders and their civil society partners to analyze, discuss and propose initiatives for a more collaborative approach through a multi-year thematic track. The ultimate aim was to introduce a different model of funding relationships – a model of more “intelligent”, sustainable partnerships.

This paper serves to give a synopsis of the progress of the Intelligent Funder Track (IFT) discussions between 2006 and 2008. It explains the background of the conception of the track, its objectives and the course of the debate to this point. It furthermore outlines in depth the lessons learned, to inform the discussion going forward and the objectives for 2008-2009.

I lost a good deal of money like most people in the market. I started to regain some of my money in tax certificates. So far it's been much more stable for me. I found a good article about it here:
